Terms of Service

These Terms of Service govern your use of the Bar Scene Chicago mobile app and website ("the Service"). By using the Service, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

1. Eligibility

The Service is intended for users aged 21 and older. By creating an account, you represent that you are at least 21 years old. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 21, we will delete it.

2. Accounts

You can create an account by providing an email and choosing a username. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. Don't share your password. If someone gains unauthorized access to your account, contact us so we can help.

You can delete your account at any time from Account Options inside the app. Deletion permanently removes your profile, ratings, reviews, favorites, friend connections, and submissions.

3. User-submitted content

You can submit content to the Service, including:

By submitting content, you grant Bar Scene Chicago a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to use, display, and distribute that content within the Service to other users. You can revoke this license by deleting the content (or your account) — though aggregated data (e.g., a bar's average rating) may persist anonymously.

We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these terms, and to suspend or terminate accounts that repeatedly violate them.

4. The catalog is informational

Bar information in the Service (hours, happy hour times, prices, features) is collected from public sources and user submissions. We do our best to keep it accurate, but information can change. Always check with the bar directly for the latest details, especially for things that matter (whether they're open tonight, whether happy hour is running, whether they accept reservations).

The Service is informational only. We don't sell alcohol, take reservations, accept payments on behalf of bars, or facilitate transactions of any kind.

5. Drink responsibly

The Service helps you find bars. The rest is on you. Don't drink and drive. Know your limits. Look out for the people you're with.

6. Service availability

We aim to keep the Service running, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted availability. The Service may be temporarily unavailable for maintenance, updates, or due to issues outside our control. We may change, suspend, or discontinue parts of the Service at any time.

7. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We don't warrant that the Service will be error-free, that bar information will be perfectly accurate, or that the Service will meet your specific needs.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Bar Scene Chicago and its operator are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service — including but not limited to lost profits, lost data, or interruption of use.

In no event shall total liability exceed the amount you paid for the Service in the past 12 months (which, since the app is free, is $0).

9. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the operator of the Service against any claims arising from your use of the Service or your violation of these terms, including content you submit.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Cook County, Illinois.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms over time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date and post a notice in the app. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated terms.
